Is the Caribana Carnival Free to Attend?

And the carnival is due to return in a few days. So get ready for the masquerades, soca music, Caribbean-inspired street performances, and Caribbean flavors because the Toronto Caribana 2023 is about to kick off.
History of Toronto Caribana
Since 1967, the Toronto Caribana has been the largest annual festival in North America.
Held every year on the first Saturday of August, the carnival commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Canada in 1838. Throughout its rich history, the carnival boasted of vibrant costumes, sounds, and infectious vibes that made its way throughout the city.
The first edition of the carnival was held in 1967 during Canada’s centennial celebrations. The goal was to bring the Caribbean islands together and showcase their camaraderie in a city that was home to two-thirds of all Canadians of West Indian heritage.
Originally meant as a gift from Canada to the Caribbean islands, the carnival has today grown into one of the biggest summer festivals in the world. Since its inception, every year the festival has added new events and organized more live performances. With them, the crowds grew from thousands to millions.
Even today, the festival is regarded as an emblem of cultural pride and social unity.
Highlights of the Caribana Carnival 2023
The real highlight of the 3-week Toronto Caribana carnival is the Grand Parade, where the streets become one large arena for steelpan and masquerade performances. The Grande Parade attracts millions of local, national, and international attendees. Moreover, the streets of Toronto are thronged by tourists who visit Toronto from all over the world.

Junior King and Queen Showcase
The Junior King and Queen Showcase is a costume pageantry of the future of the Caribana, where children showcase their creative costumes to be adjudged Junior King and Queen of the Carnival.
When: Sunday, July 16, 2023, 2:00 PM.

Junior Carnival Parade
Watch the future Caribana revelers parade through Neilson Road at the Junior Carnival Parade, which is a mini version of the Grand Parade.

King and Queen Showcase
Support your favorite mas bands as they perform along with their costumes dancers to showcase their Kings and Queens.

PAN Alive
The PAN Alive panorama is a stunning performance of Steel pan performers who promote the cultural musical art form. The event is brought to you by the Ontario Steelpan Association.

When is the Grand Parade?
The Grand Parade is due on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Thousands of masqueraders and steelpan artists in colorful costumes will make their way to Exhibition Place along Lakeshore Boulevard.
You can witness all the steelpan artists performing and masqueraders dancing to uncanny beats that reverberate around the streets. You’ll find Caribana-inspired events, performances, and gastronomic delights everywhere you go.
Is the Parade Free to Attend?
Although you can attend most of the parade for free, the price of admission is required for the march of the Mas bands. Available in various options, you can book seats at Exhibition Place with catered lunch and drinks right below the judge’s box.
You can also attend all the events at Lakeshore Blvd for free. However, nightlife events and parties require tickets. You can get them here.
